Professor Guermazi is the Section Chief ofMusculoskeletal Imaging at Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM), Boston, MA, United States. He is the founder and Director of the Quantitative Imaging Center within the Department of Radiology at BUSM, a research group focusing on Musculoskeletal Radiology and especially magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) that provides radiological analysis services for Industry, Foundation or NIH-sponsored trials.
Professor Guermazi’s research interest is imaging of musculoskeletal diseases, in particular the diagnosis and disease progression assessment of osteoarthritis using semiquantitative MRI scoring systems. Professor Guermazi has been extremely active and productive in OA research for over a decade and is a long-time OARSI member. He has also been a member of the OARSI Annual Meeting Program Committee since 2011.
Professor Guermazi is a French board-certified radiologist. Prior to joining Boston University, he was Director of the Osteoporosis and Arthritis Research Group (OARG) at University of California at San Francisco (UCSF) and then Director of Clinical Research at Synarc, Inc. in San Francisco.
Professor Guermazi was a co-organizer of the OA Imaging Workshop in July 2012 in Hilton Head, SC, organized a Symposium on OA imaging in July 2013 in Djerba, Tunisia, and the 7th Workshop in 2014 in Reykjavik, Iceland.
As of May 2013, Professor Guermazi was appointed the Deputy Editor of the musculoskeletal imaging section for the Radiology journal. He has authored or co-authored more than 310 peer-reviewed papers and made numerous scientific presentations at National and International osteoarthritis, rheumatology and radiology meetings.
